In order to make up a team for the Men's Championship, which follows the junior event (9th-16th March), it has been necessary to combine it with the Masters' Team, the players being as follows:

- Michael Wild
- Robbie Williams
- Steve Judd

Unfortunately there have been insufficient players available to send a Ladies team. Details of the events can be followed on the EBSA website and we wish all our players the best of luck.

ORGANISATION CHANGES
Following the resignation of John Hartley as Competitions Director (Snooker), players and officials should be aware of some changes to the organisational structure which are intended to cover for his departure.

From the beginning of February there will be a new “Competitions Executive Committee” which will comprise Clive Brown and Iain Ripo. They will be responsible for co-ordinating the various tournament activities, making sure that nothing is overlooked and arrangements are implemented in a timely manner. This will involve taking an overview of the activities of all the volunteers currently allocated duties under this section.

We are pleased to say that John Hartley has accepted the vacant position of Competitions Director (Billiards) and will continue to make a contribution to the association in this area. The Board would like to thank all the volunteers who are helping to make everything function, and express our appreciation for their support.

Peter Ainsworth (Chief Executive)

COMPETITIONS DIRECTOR
Players should be aware that John Hartley is no longer responsible for EASB competitions, although he remains on the Board and retains the position of Chairman. The activities he was previously organising have been devolved amongst others within the organisation and any queries should now be directed at the Company Secretary who will be able to identity the person dealing with the issue and pass on the question. We will soon be advertising for a volunteer to take over the position of Competitions Director in time for the new season. Hopefully the interim arrangements will be sufficient to complete all events for the current season with minimal impact for participants.

DIRECTOR OF COACHING

EASB are pleased to announce the appointment of Danny Connolly to the vacant position of  Director of Coaching.

Danny has previous experience of developing coaching programmes for the Lawn Tennis Association and currently runs his own business creating and staffing comprehensive coaching and playing programmes for tennis clubs throughout England. He is also a World Snooker qualified coach, and as a player himself, brings a desire to expand participation and increase standards of excellence in snooker and billiards.

The EASB coaching scheme, which was launched last month, is currently accepting registrations from people active in the area of junior coaching, and enquiries can be made directly to Danny through the Contacts page. Further information about the coaching scheme is available on the Coaching page.

SPORT ENGLAND RECOGNITION FOR EASB

On 22nd September 2011, Sport England formally recognised EASB as the National Governing Body for Snooker and Billiards in England.

This marks the end of a long campaign for official recognition which was begun shortly after the association was formed in 1992 as a replacement for the defunct Billiards & Snooker Control Council.

Subsequent delays were largely due to the difficulty in agreeing a united presentation for snooker and billiards; with competitions for the latter being independently run by the English Amateur Billiards Association (EABA). Following protracted attempts to achieve an inclusive solution, the successful submission, which was presented to Sport England in February, did not contain any input from the EABA.

This change in status now enables EASB to make progress in a number of areas, not least giving access to schools for coaching purposes, recognition as an NGB being a prerequisite for most local authorities. The coaching scheme which was recently launched in anticipation of this decision, can now progress with the grass-roots development of snooker and billiards in England.

There is also expected to be an increase in financial opportunities, and it is hoped that a long held ambition to establish a fund to assist English representatives at overseas competitions will now be realised.
